AIIA Executive Vice-Chairman Dr. Deng Zhongming Named among Shenzhen’s First-Ever Senior Professional Technology Brokers, Accelerating Two-Way Flow between Science and Industry

14 July 2025

SHENZHEN—14 July 2025—The Shenzhen Municipal Science, Technology and Innovation Bureau (STMIB) officially unveiled the Shenzhen Municipal Natural Science Foundation and the Shenzhen New-Quality Productivity Technology Promotion Center. Dr. Deng Zhongming, Executive Vice-Chairman of the Artificial Intelligence Industry Alliance (AIIA) and President of Peking University Science Park, attended the ceremony as one of only 20 inaugural Senior Professional Technology Brokers in the city.

STMIB Party Secretary and Director-General Zhang Lin presented the certificates, hailing the group as “the vanguard of Shenzhen’s next wave of deep tech commercialization.” The event brought together representatives from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, district-level technology authorities, leading universities, research institutes, medical institutions and high-growth enterprises.

From Lab to Market: A Proven Track Record
Dr. Deng’s designation recognizes his decade-long leadership in bridging frontier research with industrial deployment. During the ceremony, STMIB launched the “Innovation Ivy Transfer Service System,” creating three linked repositories—elite talent, breakthrough projects and risk-tolerant capital. Dr. Deng immediately placed four high-caliber projects into Shenzhen’s Seed Project Library:

• Low-altitude economy airframes
• High-end precision manufacturing
• Intelligent medical robotics
• Advanced functional materials

All four ventures sit at the intersection of national strategic priorities and Shenzhen’s industrial strengths, showcasing Dr. Deng’s ability to spot, de-risk and accelerate commercially viable science.

National Mission, Shenzhen Solution

The creation of the Shenzhen Municipal Natural Science Foundation and the New-Quality Productivity Center embodies President Xi Jinping’s call to “integrate scientific and industrial innovation to foster new productive forces.” It operationalizes the spirit of the 20th CPC Central Committee’s Third Plenary Session and the Shenzhen Municipal Party Committee’s 10th Plenary Session, which positions the entire city as both cradle and catalyst for deep tech.

Director-General Zhang emphasized that the twin initiatives will:

1. Deepen open collaboration in fundamental research;

2. Nurture world-class talent across the full R&D-to-commercialization spectrum;

3. Shorten the “last-mile” between laboratory breakthrough and market adoption.

Looking Ahead: A Replicable “Shenzhen Model”

Under the dual-engine model of the Natural Science Foundation and the New-Quality Productivity Center, Shenzhen will adhere to the principles of co-creation, sharing and empowerment. Over the next five to ten years, the city aims to lay the scientific groundwork for entirely new industries and race-tracks, while exporting its system-level playbook for turning ideas into GDP—“the Shenzhen Solution.”
